The Ford Escape: The First American Made Hybrid
The earliest American produced hybrid vehicle was the Ford Escape. It was meant to have its introduction in 2003 but it really didn’t officially debut until 2004. It is a genuine electric hybrid vehicle that can run on gasoline, electric motor or both. It was actually intended to have a sense of balance between strong car performance and excellent gas mileage. Per 15,000 miles it creates less than one pound of smog-forming pollutants, which is significantly less than light truck average of 105 pounds, and average cars of 67 pounds.
